Why Is This Important?

The number of households assisted by City-funded homeowner or rental assistance programs is important as it directly reflects the scale of the City's efforts to address housing affordability. A higher number of served households indicates greater support for those struggling to afford adequate housing.

What Do The Numbers Show?

The number of homeowner and renter households receiving assistance peaked in Fiscal Year 2020-21. We expect the decline in the subsequent years to be due to the expiration of federal COVID relief funding. We do see an increase in FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25, back to FY 2021-22 levels, and moving upward. Households receive assistance by residing in subsidized housing, receiving financial assistance through loans and grants, or receiving technical or legal assistance to rent their home.

How Did We Arrive at These Numbers?

These numbers reflect an annual count of households assisted by City-funded homeownership or rental assistance programs by the Community & Economic Development Service area. Household information is collected and reported through Housing and Development Software and Community Services Software.
